Strong athletic departments aren't built by one person.
They're built through strong partnerships.
A facilitated leadership experience designed to help Athletic Directors and
coaches step away from the demands of the season, strengthen trust, improve
communication, and intentionally create the culture they want
their student-athletes to experience.

Strong People Don’t Automatically Create Strong Partnerships
Athletic Directors and coaches are often working toward the same goal while experiencing the department from very different perspectives.
Coaches are focused on their teams, athletes, and seasons.
Athletic Directors are responsible for the health of the entire department.
Many coaches work outside the school system and may have limited connection to its daily culture.
Busy seasons leave little time for meaningful conversation.
Assumptions can quietly replace communication.
Small disconnects can eventually become cultural problems.
The problem usually isn't a lack of commitment. It's a lack of space.
The Partnership Sessions™ creates that space—giving Athletic Directors and coaches an opportunity to slow down, understand one another, strengthen trust, and intentionally decide how they want to work together.
It feels like having the difficult conversation before frustration becomes resentment.
It feels like understanding the pressure the other person is carrying — even when you don't completely agree.
It feels like coaches knowing where the department is headed and understanding how their program fits into that vision.
It feels like an Athletic Director being able to challenge a coach without the relationship becoming the casualty.
It feels like replacing assumptions with conversations.
It feels like expectations being clear before the season gets complicated.
It feels like disagreement without disconnection.
It feels like coaches knowing they are part of something larger than their individual program.
It feels like an Athletic Director knowing they don't have to carry the culture alone.
And maybe most importantly...
It feels like people choosing to work with one another — not simply alongside one another.
Shared understanding. Shared ownership. Stronger culture.
01 — ARRIVAL
Slow Down & Arrive
Step away from the demands of the season, become present, and create space for the conversations ahead.
02 — DISCOVERY
See the People Behind the Roles
Look beyond titles and responsibilities to better understand the people, experiences, and perspectives around the table.
03 — CONNECTION
From Assumptions to Agreements
Surface assumptions, strengthen communication, and begin replacing what we think we know with conversations that create understanding.
04 — WILD RESET™
Create Space
Step outside the conversation. Slow down, notice, reflect, and allow perspective to emerge without another voice filling the space.
05 — THE PLAYBOOK
Define Who You Choose to Be
Build a shared Department Playbook around the behaviors people should actually see when your culture is at its best.
06 — PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT
Commit to One Another
Distill the day's work into clear commitments your Athletic Director and coaches are willing to make—and keep—to one another.
07 — CARRY IT FORWARD
Bring It Back to the Season
Leave with shared language, greater understanding, and practical commitments designed to live beyond the session.
The Partnership Sessions™ isn't designed to leave your department with another binder of ideas. You leave with work your people created together.
A Department Playbook built in your own language around the behaviors you want people to see
A signed Partnership Agreement reflecting the commitments your leaders make to one another
Shared language for communication, culture, and accountability
Greater understanding of the people and perspectives behind the roles
Clearer expectations before the pressures of the season take over
Practical commitments designed to live beyond the session
Reflection resources to help carry the work forward

Communicate before assumptions become problems
Understand the pressures and perspectives each role carries
Navigate disagreement without damaging the relationship
Set clearer expectations across the department
Use shared language around leadership, culture, and accountability
Hold one another accountable to commitments they created together
Recognize that department culture is a shared responsibility
Your department doesn't need everyone to think the same way.
It needs leaders who understand where they're going together, how they want to work together, and what they're willing to expect from one another.
The Partnership Sessions™ creates a foundation for:
More honest conversations
Greater trust between coaches and Athletic Directors
Clearer expectations and fewer assumptions
Stronger alignment across individual programs
Shared ownership of department culture
More consistent leadership for student-athletes
When the adults responsible for the culture work better together, student-athletes experience the difference.
I created The Partnership Sessions™ because I’ve spent years on both sides of this relationship—as a coach responsible for a team and as a leader responsible for an entire organization.
I know how easy it is for good people with the same intentions to begin working around one another instead of with one another.
Most of the time, the problem isn't effort or commitment. It's that nobody creates the space for the conversations that need to happen.
The Partnership Sessions™ was built to create that space.
Not to tell Athletic Directors how to lead.
Not to tell coaches how to coach.
But to help good people understand one another better, clarify what they expect from each other, and intentionally decide what they want their culture to become.
I believe the strongest cultures aren't handed down by one leader.
They're built together.

Q: Who is The Partnership Sessions™ designed for?
A: Athletic Directors and the coaches they lead. It can be facilitated with an individual athletic department, across a school district, or as part of an association, conference, or leadership event.
Q: How long is a Partnership Session?
A: The experience is designed as a facilitated, full-day session. We can also discuss the needs, schedule, and setting of your organization to determine the best format.
Q: Is this another professional development workshop?
A: Not really. The Partnership Sessions™ is highly participatory. Your leaders have conversations, reflect, work through assumptions, and ultimately create their own Department Playbook and Partnership Agreement.
Q: Do coaches need to prepare anything beforehand?
A: No extensive preparation is required. The experience is designed to meet people where they are and allow the work to emerge through the day.
Q: Can this work if there is already tension within our department?
A: Yes, provided the group is willing to participate in honest, respectful conversation. The Partnership Sessions™ is designed to create space for understanding and stronger communication; it is not mediation or conflict-resolution therapy.
Q: What happens after the session?
A: Your department leaves with its Department Playbook, Partnership Agreement, shared language, and practical commitments. Departments that want continued support can also choose Partnership Stewardship™.
Q: Can this be part of a professional development day, retreat, or conference?
A: Yes. The Partnership Sessions™ can be delivered for individual schools, districts, associations, retreats, and professional development events.
The Session Is One Day. The Partnership Continues.
The Partnership Sessions™ creates the space to have important conversations, build your Department Playbook, and make commitments to one another.
But culture isn't built in one day.
Partnership Stewardship™ helps your department periodically reconnect to the work it created—without adding another major responsibility to the Athletic Director's plate.
CHECK IN → REFLECT → NOTICE → ADJUST → KEEP MOVING
Through brief check-ins during the season, TCI helps your department:
Revisit the commitments in your Partnership Agreement
Surface what's working and where friction may be developing
Keep important conversations from getting lost in the season
Give coaches an opportunity to reflect and be heard
Provide the Athletic Director with a Partnership Pulse
Identify practical next steps without creating another meeting
We're here to help carry the work — not add to it.
